The work submitted is a sample of my project exploring historical and cultural aspects of dolls. The development and exploration of this project has allowed me to embrace numerous construction methods, and foster a progression of my visual image making and presentation. The idea originated from a self directed project known as ‘site and scale’ this involved taking an image from a previous project in the term and recreating it. This developed into producing two dolls that became the foundation of the obsession project, which involved picking dolls as my topic area. This began by looking at voodoo dolls and experimenting with the idea of wrapping them like juju dolls using techniques such as knotting ribbon and experimenting with card to create miniature dolls. This developed into a fusion experimenting with colour samples, sketches, and textured surfaces. The project progressed by researching into contemporary dolls through photography and wrapping them, this research has recently developed into the construction of a knotted garment.

I am currently studying on MMU`s art foundation course where I have chosen to specialise in fashion and textiles due to my passion for experimenting with different media and pushing the boundaries with materials that can be applied to fashion design. My current work is particularly involved with visualizing ideas and images concerned with design surfaces. I enjoy visiting the University galleries alongside numerous acclaimed art galleries both locally and abroad, this has allowed me to observe and critically analyse artistic work which has provided me with creative inspiration.

I am interested in the course as my ambition is to become equiped with the valuable experience ,and techniques necessary to pursue a reputable degree at Manchester school of art within the area of fashion and textiles.
